Cami at Home

The world has changed. COVID19 has caused employers and employees around the globe to rethink the importance of working in-office. More than ever, people are working from home. And more than ever, it’s becoming harder to stay fit and healthy as gyms become inaccessible.

Working from home can mean that we have less instances to be active and more instances to be sedentary. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Just because we may not be able to go to the gym doesn’t mean that we have to be less active. Even if you’re on a budget, it can cost nothing (except some time) to remain active. Here are some great, free ways to stay healthy and fit (at home and anywhere):

Heather Robertson

This is one of my favourite channels. She has plenty of free, follow along workouts to help you stay fit. I love her low impact playlist, which is great for those who aren’t able (or willing) to do high impact exercises (such as running and jumping). Note: Low impact doesn’t mean low intensity – you will absolutely sweat with these workouts!

She has other playlists ranging from 20-30min workouts, no repeat workouts, strength training, bodyweight only, and more! Check out all of her workouts here – I’m certain you’ll find something to suit your needs.

Looking for other workouts? I’ve added some playlists to my channel from my favourite YouTubers.

Walking & Biking

Increasing our exposure to sunlight and nature will help us to stay in a positive mood. An effective way to do while staying active is through walking and/or biking. Put on your favourite music or podcast, and enjoy your exercise!

Notice how I didn’t mention running? This is because I actually hate running 😂. But please, don’t let my hate stop your vibe – you can definitely run if it’s your thing (or if you want to make it your thing)!

Bodyweight Exercises

If your knees can handle it, doing a variety of squats, planks, bridges, pushups, and lunges will help to work your core and glutes, which is especially important to do if you’re sitting for long periods of time (and will likely happen while working from home). There are quite a few challenges and workouts that you can follow on Pinterest or Instagram to get you started.

It’s important to take care of ourselves while working from home, but especially during these times. I’ve already recommended a couple of channels that I personally follow, but there are plenty of free videos to help you stay active.

Nutrition

An important part of staying fit and healthy is ensuring that you eat the right foods. From becoming vegan to following the keto diet, there are plenty of videos, articles, and online communities that can give you more advice to get your nutrition in check based on your body.

One easy way is to start getting your diet in check is to do intermittent fasting – this is when you choose specific times (and sometimes days) to eat, and not to eat. Personally, I’ve found this to be the least restrictive diet. And when it comes to food, I love learning about different recipes through Pinterest.

A YouTuber who I enjoy following is GaugeGirlTraining – she goes over how to determine your body type, and further into working out and eating for your body type for optimal health and fitness. As I’m working on increasing my health and fitness now, I’ll be following some of her advice for sure.

Are there any other videos or channels I should look out for? Let me know, and I’ll add them to this list!
